Aviation is one of the hardest parts of the economy to decarbonize, and one of the most talked about. Sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen aircraft, battery-electric planes, contrails, carbon offsets — the headlines fly thick and fast, but the numbers underneath them are rarely put in front of anyone. JetAlt exists to close that gap: to take the physics and arithmetic of flight’s fuel and emissions and make them something you can actually work out for yourself.

Each calculator answers one concrete question. The Jet Fuel CO2 Emissions Calculatorturns a quantity of kerosene into the carbon dioxide it releases, using the industry’s standard factor of 3.16 kg of CO2 per kilogram of fuel. The SAF Blend & CO2 Savings Calculatorshows how much lifecycle carbon a sustainable-fuel blend actually saves — and why a modest blend of a partly-cleaner fuel yields only a modest cut. The Flight Fuel Burn Calculator estimates the fuel a flight uses from its distance and aircraft class, and the fairer figure of fuel per passenger.
