How is the fuel cost worked out?
It is a straightforward multiplication: fuel quantity times the price per unit. Enter the quantity and the matching price — both per litre, both per US gallon, or both per kilogram — and the tool returns the total. Add a seat count and it also divides the bill across the seats to give a fuel cost per seat.
Should I enter litres, gallons, or kilograms?
Use whatever your price is quoted in, as long as the quantity and price share the same unit. Jet fuel is priced per US gallon in some markets and per litre or per tonne in others. Keep the two consistent and the total is correct; mixing units — litres of fuel with a per-gallon price — will give a wrong answer.
Is fuel the whole cost of operating a flight?
No. Fuel is one of the largest single costs for an airline, often a quarter to a third of operating expenses, but it is not the total. Crew, maintenance, airport and navigation charges, ownership or lease costs, catering, and taxes all add up. The price you pay for fuel itself also includes into-plane fees, throughput charges, taxes, and the effects of hedging.
How does SAF change the fuel bill?
Sustainable aviation fuel currently costs roughly two to five times more per unit than conventional Jet A, so a blend raises the fuel bill even though it lowers emissions.
